THE ROVER V8 HAS ALWAYS BEEN HAMPERED BY ITS BREATHING POTENTIAL, BUT NOT ANYMORE THANKS TO WILDCAT ENGINEERING'S NEW CYLINDER HEAD DESIGN

The Rover V8 has always been an attractive proposition for special builders. Light and with enough litres to be powerful also cheap and readily available. And there are now steel cranks and rods and forged pistons available at reasonable cost to toughen the bottom end, but the main obstacle to extra power was the cylinder heads. Former CamAm and Interserie racer Ian Richardson, has designed and developed a neat new head casting for the Rover engine that bolts straight on and uses the same pushrod arrangement but in stage 1 form will flow 130 cubic feet per minute of gas. The best Rover manages about 105. The stage 2 Wildcat has flowed over 150cfm, and helps a 51tr Rover to just under 450bhp. Add electronic fuel injection which will smooth the engine still further and make it more efficient. Heads are complete to include aluminium valve covers, roller rockers, and all valve gear.
